Monument of Memory Exchange

The Monument of Memory Exchange questions the term of a monument as a statue, building, or other edifice created to commemorate a person or important event on a collective level of memory. In Buchhart’s Monument of Exchange the artist offers items of personal sentimental value. He offers his own momories to be exchanged with memories of other people who determine the value of the object and offer something in exchange. The exchange is documented and the offered memories (objects) of the visitors are exhibited. Buchhart builds up a very private monument which strikingly differs from heroic monuments in public space.
